Pre-Competitive Programs

Junior Wavemakers (3-5 years) and Wavemakers (4-7 years) focuses on foundational swimming skills and comfort in the water. Skills include flutter and dolphin kick on all sides, streamline position and breath control. Swimmers entering Jr. Wavemakers must be comfortable away from their caregiver for 45 mins and be willing to put their face in the water to participate in the group. Swimmers entering Wavemakers must to be able to swim 5m unassisted in the big pool and perform flutter kick on their front and back. This program is offered at Crystal Pool and Esquimalt Rec Center. Days and times are listed below. 

Crystal Pool
Monday - Friday 4:30-5:15pm
Swimmers can choose to swim 1-3 times a week. 
Spring 2018 Session April 9th - June 29th, 2018
Registration opens March 9th at the Crystal Pool front desk.

Cost Breakdown:
Each swimmer must pay a $44 SwimBC insurance fee when registering for their first program each season (September 2017-August 2018)
1x week per practice cost: $10.75
2x week per practice cost: $10.00
3x week per practice cost: $9.25
Our spring session at Crystal is 12 weeks long. Fees will be prorated for registrations after the first 2 weeks. There is no class on Monday May 21st. Swimmers who choose Monday as one of their practice days will have that adjusted in their fees. 

Esquimalt Rec Center
Sunday/Monday/Wednesday 4:00-4:45pm
Swimmers can choose to swim 1-2 times a week. 
Spring 2018 Session April 8th - June 13th, 2018
Registration is now open through the Esquimalt Rec Centre front desk.

Once a week practice cost: 12.75
Our spring session at Esquimalt is 9 or 10 weeks long depending on the day you register for. There will be no classes May 20th or 21st. 
Fee will be prorated for registrations after the first 2 weeks. Swimmers registering for twice a week will receive a 20% discount.  


Tyee Swim Skills (5-9 years) builds on the basic skills taught in Wavemakers and teaches swimmers the 4 strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle). Endurance is developed by swimming lengths with a technical focus. Swimmers are encouraged to attend within-club swim meets to get a glimpse of competitive swimming, and to develop an enjoyment of racing. This program is offered at Crystal Pool and Esquimalt Rec Centre. Days and times are listed below. 

Crystal Pool
Monday - Friday 4:20-5:30pm
Swimmers can choose to swim 1-3 times a week.

Tyee Freshmen (8-12 years) The last level in the Tyee Pre-Competitive program, Tyee Freshmen gets swimmers ready for swimming at a competitive level by continuing to build endurance and technique in all 4 strokes. The focus in this group is to refine the foundations of competitive swimming. Other swimming skills that are introduced at this level include reading a pace clock, dives, relay starts, and legal turns in the 4 strokes. Racing at within-club meets is encouraged. This program is offered at Crystal Pool.
