Coaching Staff


 Dexter Bligh - Head Coach & Technical Director
Along with managing all operational aspects of the organization, Dexter coaches competitive swimmers in Tyee's Junior and Senior programs who are aiming towards provincial and national levels of competition. Combining his obvious outgoing enthusiasm for the sport of swimming with a strong understanding of technique and competitive psychology, Dexter has proven himself to be a great motivator for athletes of all ages and abilities. He is a former National qualifier, swimming competitively at the Club level for 10 years. Dexter is entering his 6th season here at Tyee.
 Jennika Profile Jennika Efford - Assistant Head Coach
Jennika has been coaching since 2009 in both winter and summer clubs around B.C. She has always loved working with young athletes and challenging them to reach their fullest potential. Jennika swam for the University of British Columbia for 4 years before moving to Vancouver Island. She is very excited about her role with Tyee Aquatic Club this season and can't wait to see the team continue to grow!


Douglas Van Ek
is a fourth year university student at the University of Victoria studying Political Science and Environmental Studies. Douglas has experience swimming competitively for ten years and has been coaching for the past seven years. He currently coaches the Freshman group of Tyee with the intention of growing the program to create young swimmers interested in competitions. With an enthusiastic demeanor, Douglas keeps the young athletes having fun while training and improving their skills.

 Mike coaching  

Mike Neill is a former professional Ironman Triathlete with over 25 Ironman Triathlon Finishes during his career. Mike is the founder and Head Coach of Human Powered Racing in Victoria since its inception in 2006. Mike has been involved in the sport of triathlon since 1994 and began his coaching career with the Queen’s University Triathlon Club in 1998. Since that time he has gone on to coach the Commonwealth Triathlon Club, Island Triathlon Club, Tyee Masters Swim Club as well as coaching a number of Triathlon camps both locally and internationally. Mike is an NCI qualified coach who uses his many years of racing and coaching to provide a dynamic and interactive coaching style to athletes of all ages and abilities. Mike coaches Tyee's Masters programs at Crystal Pool.

 Bio - Trainer 2  

Wesley Wood is an experienced strength and conditioning coach from Limitless Training. Wesley provides the Tyee dryland program for the development of each young athlete’s performance with correct body mechanics and the mindset to excel both in and outside the pool. Wesley served within the Australian Army and was awarded a Distinguish Service Medal for courage and leadership in action with enemy forces. Wesley competed at the Ironman 70.3 Worlds in 2014 and also published his nutrition book Limitless Eating which is targeted towards endurance athletes to improve their performance and educate them on correct fueling.

 John Greaves John Greaves John has been coaching with Tyee the longest of all our present coaches. He is an expert coach of young Wavemaker and Swim Skills swimmers, and has mastered the art of making learning thoroughly enjoyable. John is also a Shiatsu Therapist, runs water fitness classes at Crystal, and coaches Triathlon. He has four children, who also enjoy swimming.
